Heather Ball
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Birthday 1996-2023
Heather Ball was 27 when her partner killed her on May 17/18, 2023. Police say it was a case of femicide. According to Red Heart Campaign's Twitter page, she is the 20th female domestic violence homicide victim this year.
Heather had four children whom she loved dearly. Her Facebook is flooded with pictures of her and her kids, lots of them at parks. From what I can tell, she had 2 daughters and 2 boys.
She was loud, outgoing, beautiful, loving, kind, full of life, and loved being with her friends and family. People say she was always happy and had a smile on her face. One friend said Heather was among the nicest, most friendly people she remembers from school. And anyone who has survived public high school knows how rare that is. Her sister said, "Our lives were made so much better and brighter for having you in it, and it is indeed dark times for our family and the many, many people whose lives you touched in such beautiful ways."
Heather had just finished a schooling program and was due to be placed in an assisted living facility for work, and she was in an on-again, off-again relationship with a 29-year-old male.
Not long before her murder, she took out a domestic violence order, but the public does not know who it was against, when it was filed and approved, and why it was issued.
But on May 17/18, 2023, the police got a call around 8:30 pm about a woman screaming for help. It's my understanding that Heather and her four children were at an apartment complex; I think it was her unit, but I'm not positive when she was attacked on the sidewalk outside of the building. Some neighbors witnessed the events because it happened in front of their units. While watching tv, one neighbor heard a scuffle in the bushes then Heather screamed in terror, begging for help. The neighbor ran downstairs to see what was happening and saw Heather on the footpath, or sidewalk area, covered in blood and stab wounds. She tried to hold Heather's hand, but there was so much blood her hand kept slipping out of the neighbor's grip.
The suspect fled on foot but ended up getting access to a vehicle and leading police on a high-speed chase before crashing into the back of a police car. It ended up being Heather's on-again-off-again partner. He was taken to the hospital and later charged with a domestic violence-related murder, 2 counts of attempted murder, dangerous driving, evading the police, and (CONTRAVENING) a DV order. I think that answers some of our questions about what happened to Heather that night.
When emergency responders arrived, Heather was unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away. The Queensland Police Commissioner said the scene was absolutely horrific for first responders and witnesses.
Her family and friends are heartbroken and say Heather's passing has left them with unimaginable grief. Hannah Clarke's family has reiterated their call for authorities to crack down on coercive control.
Her children are currently in the care of Heather's friends and family. A GoFundMe account had been set up to help financially support her children and for funeral costs. They have raised a little over half their goal. Her family has pledged to make sure her children grow up as happy and healthy as possible; as they say, they will do everything they can to let her kids know what an incredible person she was and how much she loved them.
Unfortunately, because this happened so recently, I'm filming this in July 2023, detectives are tight-lipped, and there is a lot of information the public doesn't know yet. I couldn't find anything to indicate how Heather experienced the 8 stages of domestic violence homicides. However, they have opened a homicide investigation called operation victor ammi to figure out what happened and say more information will come in time. But I did want to spread awareness about her case and the fact that police are asking that anyone with information about the case, or CCTV or dashcam footage in the area of Short Street and Holden Commodore Caboolture, north of Brisbane, Queensland, around 8:30 pm on May 17/18 2023. to contact the police department.
If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out to the police, family, friends, a local or national resource. You're not alone, and there are many good people in the world waiting for you to make a move so they can help and support you
