Daisy Hayes
1951/1952-Last seen 5/2/2018
Foundations supporting the case:
A Chicago family is frustrated and heartbroken after the man their mom was last seen with gets acquitted for the murder of Daisy Hayes.
Unfortunately, I could not find a lot of information about Daisy. I wish I could tell you guys about her personality or things she liked, but in this case, I can't, and we all have to ask ourselves why that is. I can tell you that Daisy was 65 years old and 85lbs when she disappeared in May 2018. She had at least one daughter and was regarded as a devoted grandmother. At the time of her death, she was having an intermittent relationship with a 75-year-old man we will not name as he was acquitted of all charges. This man lived in the same apartment building as Daisy. Security cameras in the building record Daisy entering her Woodlawn apartment in Chicago around 8:30 pm. Ten minutes after she entered her unit, the man was seen approaching her door. One article I read stated he joined the unit with a key, while the second claimed he pressed his head against the door and left.
Either way, after leaving, he is recorded returning to her unit around 4:50 am using a key to enter. He stays in the apartment for roughly 30 minutes. When he exits, he is seen carrying a plastic grocery bag and walking back to his unit in the building.
At 5:40, he again exited his unit wearing different clothing and carrying a suitcase. In the video, the man can easily maneuver the bag directly after leaving his unit, handling it with one hand and even holding it in the air at one point. He is seen entering Daisy's apartment again. This time he was only in the unit for approximately four minutes.
Upon exiting Daisy's unit, the man struggled to move the suitcase; and the bag itself had changed shapes. Now, it was bulging and mishappening. He brought the suitcase back to his unit before hauling it through the lobby, and at 6:06 am, he was seen putting the suitcase in the building's dumpster. The man was even captured walking to other dumpsters to collect trash to place on top of the suitcase in his building's dumpster. Later that day, a garbage truck gathered the items in the dumpster and brought them to the Indiana landfill, which was confusing; why didn't they use the Illinois landfill?
Daisy Hayes and the suitcase have never been seen again.
The video shows the man entering and exiting Daisy's apt numerous times carrying cleaning supplies, including a mop and mop bucket.
Months after Daisy disappeared, the man she was seeing was arrested and charged with murder, home invasion, and concealing a death. Although the video appears to have been enough evidence for the Prosecutors to get the man held with no bond while awaiting trial, the judge later deemed it insufficient to convict him. The judge stated a lack of evidence, including biological evidence of a crime or struggle ever occurring.
Perhaps even more concerning is that this was not the first time this man had been a suspect in a murder case. In 1985 he was charged with two counts of murder, but after six months, the case was dropped.
The family is devastated and confused. They reached out to law enforcement and were told it was a matter of money. It would cost millions to sift through the landfill and look for the suitcase, the suitcase the family believes Daisy left her apartment in those early hours of 2018.
My heart goes out to the family; I struggle to understand what happened here. If any lawyers are listening, leave a comment below or shoot me an email.
