We often hear people talking about how people in domestic violence relationships should create a safety plan before leaving. So what is a safety plan?
A safety plan is a set of actions that an individual can take to help lower the risk of future harm by their partner. There isn’t one set of directions to create a safety plan because all situations are different but there are similar categories they address. These include noting any weapons in the home, creating additional plans for workplaces or schools, or action plans for any children involved. It can take some time but is a necessary tool to increase the chance of survival during these events.
